‘Bogboy’ by Deirdre Kinahan, by kind permission of Nick Hern Books, (directed by Joanne Keane) – from one of Ireland’s most compelling voices comes a darkly comic and deeply humane story. This is a gripping Irish tale of violence, redemption and human connection when the past and present collide in the midlands. As a long-buried crime resurfaces, two lives are changed forever. ‘Bogboy’ is Balally Players’ entry to the ADCI/DLI One Act Circuit and goes on tour to 5 drama festivals around the country.
‘Cannibals’ by Heather Dundas (directed by Gerard Bourke) – a biting 20 min. comedy, from the American writer, exposing the savagery hidden beneath polite society. We meet a frazzled mother questioning her life in the chaos of a morning carpool. Between screaming kids and the memories of a freer past, she begins to question how she ended up here … and whether she can escape.
The Stronger by August Strindberg (directed by Wesley Scully) – a short one-act play, by the Swedish playwright, of psychological tension and unspoken rivalry. On Christmas Eve, two women meet by chance in a café: one married, one single. Through a sharp, one-sided conversation, old secrets, desires and jealousies surface – raising the question of who truly holds the power in their relationship.
