Em Ó Ceallaigh: I’m a theatre-maker (facilitator, director, dramaturg, and devisor). I was the Artistic Director of theatre company, Super Paua (2022-2023) and previously was the Engagement Director, creating art for young people and development opportunities for artists. I create contemporary, humorous and multilingual work with the community and audience at the heart. I’m interested in shame, and the stories we tell about it that limit us. I play with structure and form to find interesting journeys.Recent work: a bursary from the Arts Council Ireland to develop my dramaturgy practice 2023-2024; An Chos Eile, axis:Ballymun November 2024 (director and some dramaturgy); curator for Schöne Aussicht 2024, international arts festival for young people in Germany; Facilitation Programme for Artists, with Riverbank Arts Centre, to create and run creative workshops with science (programme creator); Whodunnit? The Great Art Robbery!, Dublin and Melbourne Fringe Festival 2022 (actor/facilitator for online whodunnit); Super Paua Stories 2022-2023, multilingual podcast online (director, dramaturg and producer).
“I’m delighted to be in residency with the Mill theatre this year! It gives me an opportunity to get to know the wonderful and supportive staff at the Mill; to support my ongoing work with space to work and dream; to collaborate with established groups and new audiences at the Mill; and to develop new cabaret/drama about faith and incompetent patron saints. A huge thank you to all at the Mill for their support! Go raibh míle maith agaibh.”
Artistic Director Kate Canning: “We are delighted to welcome Em to the Mill family as Artist in Residence 2024. We are committed to creating a more inclusive and diverse culture here at the Mill and Em, both as an Artist and Person underpins these values. We welcome the opportunity to facilitate Em’s work and look forward to what develops from this partnership”.
