Our Artistic Director and CEO steps down

The Board of Directors of DLR Mill Theatre announces that, after nine years with the organisation, Kate Canning has decided to step down from her role as Artistic Director and CEO.

Kate has been an exceptional leader throughout her time with the Mill. Her strategic vision and creative passion have transformed the theatre into a vibrant, inclusive, and artistically ambitious space embedded at the heart of the Dundrum and wider community. Under her leadership, the theatre has grown in audience reach, artistic output, and financial sustainability. From championing innovative outreach programmes to supporting emerging artists and securing vital funding, her contribution has been both profound and lasting.

On behalf of the entire Board, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Kate for her energy, commitment, and creativity. She leaves a strong legacy, and we wish her every success in her next chapter. Kate has earned the greatest respect from the Board over the years through her positive, constructive and creative approach to her role. This respect is also felt by those who have had the privilege to work with Kate and who have supported her fully along the way.

We will shortly begin the recruitment process for a new Artistic Director and CEO.

A Message from Kate Canning

“It has been an immense privilege to lead the DLR Mill Theatre over the past nine years. Working with such a dedicated team, and with the unwavering support of the Board, I’m incredibly proud of how far the organisation has come.

I’m particularly proud that, over the years, the theatre has come to truly mirror the diversity of the community around us, championing under-represented voices, nurturing an inclusive environment, and strengthening our connection with artists.

I leave with deep gratitude and pride in all that we have achieved together. The DLR Mill Theatre is a special place, and I look forward to following its continued growth as a vital cultural hub — one that genuinely belongs to everyone.”
