Our Neighbourhood Company

About

The Neighbourhood Company recently completed a series of eight workshops. The workshops were designed to assist people to engage, experience and participate in the arts.

The content of the workshops stimulated an existing interest or an emerging interest in the theatre. Participants were supported in engaging age-appropriate games and exercises specifically designed to inspire confidence and creativity. These bespoke workshops examined the letter writing of Lady Gregory and the works of the dramatist, Hugh Leonard.

The participants, in collaboration with the dlr Mill Theatre and facilitators, Clare Maguire & Seamus Quinn, are applying for a bursary to support a further series of workshops.

Concept

To establish a group of 15-18 people over the age of 55 to engage in an 10-week programme of theatrical workshops to be held at The dlr Mill Theatre.

The workshops are designed to assist people to engage, experience and participate in the arts. It is envisaged that the content of the workshops will stimulate an existing interest or an emerging interest in the theatre.

Participants will be supported in engaging age-appropriate games specifically designed to inspire confidence and creativity.

Text Work – Established Works

It is intended that the content will encompass classic and contemporary theatre, building on the success of the Neighbourhood Company workshops and by request from participants we wish to now expand and include an introduction and exploration of Irish playwrights throughout the years, from Brindsley, Sheridan to contemporary playwrights such as Deirdre Kinahan. Working on & performing scene studies of the work explored.

We envision that each workshops compliments each other to create a public engagement event or performance. This event will be decided upon with the full collaboration of the participants.
