Stephen Jones Reading

Yesterday Stephen Jones, the recipient of our Evolution Residency presented a reading of his play Breathing Room on our Main Stage. Breathing Room is a meta-theatrical, autobiographical play that follows Stephen, a Dublin-based actor and writer, as he processes the life-altering experience of suffering a stroke aged 38 and the psychological aftermath that follows. The story centres on the day of the stroke, which begins as an ordinary workout and quickly spirals into confusion, fear, and medical emergency. Alongside the physical trauma, the play explores Stephen’s emotional battles in the aftermath of the event. These episodes become a central conflict, representing a misfiring brain that turns normal adrenaline into overwhelming fear. Breathing Room is about making sense of trauma through narrative. It asks how we understand life-changing events when there are no clear answers, and whether storytelling itself can be a path to healing, identity, and recovery. We are so proud to have supported Stephen Jones in developing this stellar piece of work. The reaction from the audience yesterday spoke for itself
