Teachers, we have an exciting show for you and your students!

What do you feel when you imagine climate change? What if that feeling were to come ALIVE? What if that feeling became a CREATURE?… one that had a mind of its own, but that we could relate to…

Children in Galway and Dublin answered these questions, going on an imaginative journey to give shape and form to their feelings. Their ideas and imaginings are reflected in this immersive, atmospheric and sensory experience, brought to life by a team of award winning artists and designers.

Voiced and narrated entirely by children, their imagined stories and creatures take on myth-like qualities, whilst also asking the audience to connect with their own thoughts and feelings about climate change.

What is it?

The Shape of Quiet Feelings is a 20-minute audio and visual experience followed by a 20-minute responsive workshop, giving story and form to something that can sometimes feel scary and intangible. It hopes to empower children to consider new approaches to some of the big challenges presented by climate change, and gives them the opportunity to create their own climate creature.

Why should you bring your class?

This piece connects in with the primary school curriculum in a number of ways; English (oral language), Gaeilge, Visual arts (looking and responding), Music (listening and responding), Drama (Reflecting on drama), History (Change and Continuity), Geography (Weather, climate & atmosphere; Environmental awareness & care), Science (Environmental awareness & care) and S.P.H.E (Myself and the wider world).

It is best suited to students age 8+.

The facilitated workshop will touch on questions and talking points connected to many of these areas. A resource pack will be made available with pre and post experience talking points and activities for teachers to bring into the classroom.

Audience Feedback

From a parent:

“This interactive experience was so unique. It served to deliver an important message but in a way that put their voices, and the voices of their peers, at the heart of it. They got to enter a world with incredible ‘living’ sculptures, that was a feast for the eyes! The soundscape also added to the environment, and I could see that they were enthralled when listening to the voices of children their age.”

From a teacher:

“They loved it. We attended The Shape of Quiet Feelings and the children loved both elements, being part of the immersive storytelling and then creating their own monsters after, while discussing their own attachments to nature afterwards. It was a great way to introduce Climate Change to them.”

From the children:

“I liked the way we got to write down the way the colours made us feel.”

“There were cool sculptures, like the BIG ice sculpture, like Jack Frost… I loved the volcano one.”

“love the way that after we got to make sculptures of climate change, it was really cool. We got to make them from homemade play doh.”
