Our Neighbourhood Company
Would you like to join our series of workshops, meet the dlr Mill team, step into a welcoming and creative space to work with a like-minded peer group?
At DLR Mill Theatre, we believe that everyone is naturally creative and seek to remove barriers to developing new skills at an older age. Our Neighbourhood Company offers people aged 55 and over in our local area opportunities to connect and create. All activities are free to attend and are planned to take place in person on Wednesday mornings from 11am-1pm in the dlr Mill Theatre in Dundrum.
The workshops are designed to assist people to engage, experience and participate in the arts. The content of the workshops will stimulate an existing interest or an emerging interest in the theatre. Participants will be supported in engaging age-appropriate games specifically designed to inspire confidence and creativity.
Text Work – Established Works The content will encompass classic and contemporary theatre, such as contrasting writers Lady Gregory and Hugh Leonard. Investigating their work through play readings, scene studies and workshopping select scenes.
Context Work – Opening up New Worlds Inspired by the letter writing of Lady Gregory and the travel writing of Hugh Leonard. Exploring and improvising lesser-known work to stimulate individual creativity and personal performance. We envision that each workshop compliments each other to create an event or performance in the final workshop. This event will be decided upon with the full collaboration of the participants.
