Tonight’s comedians have performed all over the country to standing ovations, welcome to our opening night
Our headliner – Sophia Wren
“So You Think You’re Funny”, Edinburgh finalist 2024.
Sophia Wren began performing stand-up just last year and within 12 months she has shared the bill with Deirdre O’Kane and Justine Stafford at Funny Women on Whelan’s main stage, opened for Stephen Mullan (Ouch and Yeah, Yeah, Yeah), and performed as part of Dalkey comedy Festival.
She was the winner of “Show Me The Funny’ in 2024 and was a finalist in Bray Comedy Festival’s ‘Best New Act’ competition, as well as performing regularly in all of Dublin’s Comedy clubs.
Most recently she performed a WIP of her debut solo show ‘Princess Melancholy’, as part of Scene + Heard Festival of New Work 2024. Sophia plans to develop this into a full hour which she can bring to Edinburgh Fringe and Dublin Fringe and beyond.
Claire Roche
In 2022 Claire Roche stood up one day in her kitchen and said to her husband and three little children – “That’s it, I need to be on stage again, make your own dinners” and drove straight into Dublin City to her first open mic show. She has been on a roll since then on the shelf-like stages of the Irish Comedy scene.
*Highlights include performing at The Mermaid Theatre in Bray in 2024 along side Eric Lawlor and Hot Water Club in Liverpool. Claire is a regular at all the usual comedy clubs in Dublin city, InStitches, Hysteria, Hardy Har at the Harbour Bar Bray, Wicklow Pride Festival, and a regular face in the Wexford and Kilkenny comedy scene. Claire also performed on the main stage at the first Irish FUNNY WOMEN event in Whelans to an audience 180.
Fast-talking observational comedy with lots of movement on stage! Listen up or you’ll miss out.
Josh O’Connell
Josh started his comedy journey with his first gig at Good Craic Comedy Club in Bray last June.
Since then, he has performed at the prestigious “Show Me The Funny” competition in Galway, supported his favourite local band, Scustin, on the Whelan’s Main Stage, was a runner up at “The Gong Show” in the Workman’s Cellar and has performed at comedy clubs up and down the country.
A talented Bray man and an average stand-up comedian, he has recently returned from competing at “So You Think You’re Funny” in London, one of the UK and Ireland’s biggest comedy competitions
Patrick McLoughlin
Winner of the Best New Act Competition 2023, Bray Comedy Festival, this guy’s in danger of becoming an icon.
Consistently pleased with himself he took up comedy in 2019 and gigs regularly. London, New York, Peking, Mullingar, he’s shared the stage with the best of them. Normally tethered to the hob of a Friday evening he’s been given a pass for tonight. The Marigolds are off, the pink ruffles are on.
You be the judge; does he look like every guy your girlfriend tells you not to worry about? Come see the phenomenon for yourself!
A Fantastic night of comedy in a beautiful venue is in store for the audience! Come along and meet your next favourite comedians
